4 Ways Scorpions SPREAD
Most people who get scorpions after living in the same home for years wonder how scorpions spread. Here are four ways we’ve watched scorpions spread in the Greater Phoenix Valley over the last 10 years.
#1 Nightly Hunting & Mating
Scorpions spread during nightly activities as they search for a mate & prey. During the spring & summer scorpions ROAM at night in search of a MATE. Scorpions SPREAD during nightly HUNTS entering yards and homes looking for food & shelter. Scorpions often enter homes as shelter when the sun comes up.
I purchased a home in Surprise and when my daughter moved in we realized that there was a scorpion problem. My other daughter that lived next door had the same problem several years ago but was solved within two months of Responsible Pest Control starting their service. We have now not seen any scorpions in 9 months. I also have been very pleased with their customer service and service professionals. I have been in the valley for over 60 years and Responsible is the best. – Vince E. Surprise AZ
#2 Construction – Development
We have noticed scorpions getting established in new areas due to development. If you have a new neighborhood or other building under construction near by, chances are you’re going to see more scorpion activity.
New development and construction disturbs scorpions living in the desert and pushes them out into other properties that are close by. Construction can also inadvertently brings scorpions in with the materials they build with. New development digs up land that was serving as home to scorpions and pests, and builds on top of their burrows, etc. If there are CONSTRUCTION AREAS around your home beware! These zones tend to disrupt scorpion habitats so much that they will look for somewhere else to make their home. (IE Yours!)
Initially contacted them for Scorpion control due to heavy construction in the immediate area. Responsible Pest Control has a formula and spraying method that took care of the problem on the first visit. I have been using them on a monthly basis ever since… that was nearly three years ago. In that time, and I am not exaggerating … my family has seen perhaps three or four scorpions around the home/yard, and they were already DEAD. Family owned and operated. I highly recommend this Maricopa, AZ Based Company. You can not go wrong with RPC. Marc G. in Gilbert AZ
#3 Moving – Human Transportation
People moving from highly scorpion populated areas unknowingly bring scorpion stowaways to new areas in their boxes etc.
Ever opened a moving box and to find a scorpion? It’s a common occurrence! Scorpions enter boxes for shelter when the sun comes up. (Better than hiding in your pants!) Weather they’re stored in your garage or just used for moving items, scorpions spread from one place to another in boxes.
#4 Landscaping Materials
This is more common than you may think! Scorpions can also be transported in via landscaping materials.
Nurseries DO have scorpions, and when you buy a new plant, or something for the yard, you may be getting more than you paid for. On several occasions we have seen rocks brought in and dumped in a pile, just waiting to be spread in someones new yard with SCORPIONS (and other pests) crawling around in it. Just be aware.
I was very unhappy with our previous pest control provider. I was seeing a lot of scorpions around still so I made the switch to Responsible Pest. They are very friendly and very knowledgeable about all pests and they use the best mixture of poisons to best suit whatever pest you are dealing with. I have only seen 1 scorpion since switching to them and I think I brought it in with some trees I was planting. – Mesa AZ

Scorpion Control Pesticide
Can Pesticides Kill Scorpions? Yes!
Is Diatomaceous Earth Safe & EFFECTIVE Scorpion Pest Control?
Diatomaceous earth consists of fossilized diatoms a hard-shelled algae. After prolonged exposure to DE, this microscopically abrasive powder can cut up the exoskeleton of scorpions & pests, dehydrate them, and cause their death.

EFFECTIVE Pest Control
Does Diatomaceous Earth work for Scorpion Pest Control? Not effectively… A line of DE powder around your home, or fence, does not provide scorpions, and other pests, with enough EXPOSURE to kill them in a timely manner! Testing DE in a tub with scorpions, shows that these pests have to be exposed to Diatomaceous Earth for PROLONGED periods of time, and LARGE amounts of DE, before their exoskeleton gets cut up enough to dehydrate them to death. Killing scorpions, with sufficient amounts DE generally takes 1-2 WEEKS of exposure… Too long for most Phoenix area residents.

#1 – DE is an abrasive powder. Powders are easily BLOWN into the air posing risk of INHALATION, eye, and skin irritation. Inhaling DE would have the same effect on LUNGS as it would on the exoskeleton on pests, and may cause RESPIRATORY IRRITATION and problems. [Read more…]
