Mayfly Identification
Adult Mayflies measure 1- 30 mm long. Long and SOFT bodies. Colors vary. Short Antennae. Mayflies hold their wings together above their bodies when they’re at rest. Front wings are large with many veins, and triangle shaped.
Hind wings are rounded. Mayfly abdomens have 2 or 3 longer tails. Their front legs are longer than the rest.
Mayfly Tendencies
Mayfly nymphs are aquatic and found in on the bottom of lakes and rivers. Mayfly nymphs feed on little bits of organic matter or microscopic algae. Adults emerge from water at the same time resulting in huge swarms that are attracted to LIGHTS at night which produces large infestations in from of lighted windows at night, and piles of DEAD bodies under lights and windows.
