DIY Pest Control Tips: Mesa & Phoenix Pest Control

March 16, 2017 by Pest Control Mesa, AZ

DIY Pest Control TipsDIY Pest Control Tips! Common sense pest control solutions with professional product applications are key to EFFECTIVE pest control.

All pests need food, water, and shelter to live and breed. Remove SCORPION & PEST resources from your home & yard to get the best Scorpion & Pest Control!

Eliminate Shelter, Food and Moisture

  1. Pick up PET FOOD dishes {food and water} at night. Do not let them sit around and attract pests looking for a bite to eat!
  2. This one is kind of a no brainier, but often gets overlooked. Clean up all food crumbs and spills in a timely manner. Don’t forget to clean out your BBQ after using it… Rats, ants, wasps, and other pests like BBQ too!
  3. Eliminate interior and exterior debris that would give scorpions, and other pests, shelter during the day around your home & several feet out into your yard. This includes large unnecessary rocks, wood piles, trash, leaf litter, etc. Scorpions, and other pests, love to hide under debris during the heat of the day to conserve water!
  4. Look for and repair any leaky pipes inside the house & in yard watering systems. Scorpions, centipedes, earwigs, TERMITES, and many other pests seek moisture for themselves or their prey.
  5. Make sure your not over watering. {Most watering systems are set daily, but every 2 – 3 days is sufficient.} Keeping soil and mulch around your foundation too wet creates PERFECT conditions for TERMITES, earwigs, millipedes, some cockroaches, crickets, ANTS, and other pests. Pest can then enter homes and businesses through near by weep holes, construction gaps or holes, expansion joints, or through doors and windows that don’t have good enough weather stripping and sweeps!
  6. Make sure water on your property is draining away from the house. Hidden puddles allow mosquitoes to breed and attract other pests!
  7. Prevent “sewer roaches” from coming up drains by using ALL drains regularly. Pipes under drains have a U shaped loop call a “trap”. If these drains are used regularly, water will stay in the bottom of the U shaped pipe. This water in the “trap” prevents sewer roaches from coming through and into your home;) If a bathroom is unused, water in the “trap” dries up allowing sewer roaches to enter. Sewer roaches can infest your home if there are moist conditions. (Usually from leaky pipes under sinks.)
  8. Trim grass and plants, and make sure they aren’t touching your house. Plants and bushes that are too close to the foundation {or not trimmed back} ANTS, and other pests, can trail strait onto the house. VINES and thick ground cover plants are very conducive to PESTS – attracting rodents and other pests!

Seal Your Home

  1. Make sure all Weather-Stripping around your homes doors (including your garage doors) are in good order and replace as needed.
  2. SCREEN vents that enter your hoe from the exterior, don’t forget the ones on top of your home!
  3. Change exterior light bulbs to Yellow Lights ~ They’re less attractive to MANY MANY bugs like: beetles, crickets, moths, flies & insects that feed on them like scorpions!
  4. Silicone CAULK around doors & windows to seal any holes.
  5. Remove concrete expansion joints, and fill with Concrete Caulk.
  6. Silicone CAULK all block fence “I” blocks.
  7. To make pest control treatments MUCH more effective, PAINT or waterproof your block wall fence! Waterproof Acrylic Sealer prevents pest control product applications from being absorbed into the blocks
  8. Add or replace Door Sweeps to exterior doors especially if they’re missing, old, or worn.

These solutions, & more, allow our professional pest control treatments around your home to be more effective.
